Our Origins

Before they ever met, Lenina Close and Dave Williams testified several times at legislative committee hearings at the Colorado State Capitol.

They did this, like hundreds of other Colorado citizens, as volunteers.

Anybody can come to the capitol and testify at a committee hearing. Many do. But it takes time. Volunteers give up pay and vacation days to be heard.

When their paths eventually crossed, Lenina and Dave discussed the legislative process. They had each testified in favor of bills that advanced liberty and against bills that restricted it. And they noticed something. There were usually several paid lobbyists testifying on the anti-liberty side, and usually only private citizens on the pro-liberty side.

Why? Special interests do not like losing power. They can pay to keep it. Citizens do not like losing liberty, but taxpayers have bills (and taxes) to pay and simply can not afford to spend days at the Capitol protecting their rights.
That is where the Gadsden Society comes in. We can be at the Capitol when you can not.
We work to protect your liberty. And we can not do it without your support.

On March 1, 2009, the Gadsden Society held a Freedom Rally at the state capitol. We
